The first Enga Cultural Shows were organized on an ad-hoc basis beginning in 1982. Then, in 1994, the Enga Provincial Government recognised the importance of preserving the many unique and diverse traditions of the region and created the Enga Cultural Show Society to manage and develop the event to become a major national cultural institution.
The mysterious Ambum Stone is a rare, ancient stone sculpture, created at least 3,500 years ago in Ambum, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea. Who carved it and for what original purpose is a long lost secret.
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
On behalf of the Enga Cultural Show Management Committee, I would like to welcome you to this gateway to information about Enga and our Province’s largest annual event, the Enga Cultural Show.
As Chairperson of the Enga Cultural Show Management Committee since its inception in 1994, it has been enormously rewarding to lead the dedicated team of people who have worked tirelessly over the years to establish the Enga Cultural Show to what it is today - an event of great significance to our people and a major drawcard for visitors to our Province.
We would like to acknowledge and express our deep appreciation for the Enga Provincial Government under the leadership of Grand Chief Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, for continually contributing funding and administrative support for more than two decades to enable us to stage the Enga Cultural Show.
We are pleased to also acknowledge our growing number of corporate sponsors, whose support has increased over the years. The engagement of local and national businesses as sponsors has been key to the continuation of the event and it is also recognition of the contribution the Enga Cultural Show makes to our society in Wabag town and Enga Province as a whole.
I invite you to browse our website, which we hope will intrigue and entice you to come to our beautiful province and experience first hand our vibrant traditional cultures and way of life.
Yakapilin (Thank You)
